Jim Kennedy was born in Boston Massachusetts to Jim and Mary Kennedy (married 47 years until Mary passed in 2016).
His father served in the Air force in Vietnam, reaching a final rank of Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, he began teaching electronics, eventually becoming a Systems engineer for General Dynamics.
Jim’s mother was a homemaker, a beloved wife and mother. Around the time her children finished elementary school, she went back to college, receiving a degree in education. She worked as a teacher until retirement.

He was deployed to Sicily and Turkey with VP-16, supporting conflicts with recon planes. Jim was also an electrician in the Navy (Aviation Electricians Mate 3rd-class).
Taking full advantage of the GI Bill, he returned to college as a part time student while working in the Navy Reserves. After graduating with a BS in electrical engineering, he began to pursue his M.B.A at Harvard University.
Jim worked as an engineer designing systems for the Future Force Warrior, and autonomous platforms for the Navy. He then spent a few years designing boats for Hatteras Yachts in NC, prior to working in the power industry (aka the power company) for nearly a decade. It was around then he realized he wanted to get back to Florida. Embracing another career shift, he returned to Central Florida. Jim designed boats for Ocean Alexander and Sea Ray before being hired by the Space Center.
Jim is married with five-year-old fraternal twins. James and Genevieve. His wife Stacey is a dedicated nurse. Jim and Stacey have been together for almost eleven years and are proud to call the Space Coast home.
